About THE ARTIST

Sarah Clayton Davis has lived in McLean, Virginia, in the Washington, D.C., area since 1988. The artist holds a B.A. with Distinction in English Literature from the University of Virginia, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration with Distinction from Southern Methodist University. While at the University of Virginia, Ms. Davis studied Art History, including Renaissance art history with Frederick Hartt, one of the Monuments Men who protected Italian art during World War II. Her father, Howard Clayton, was a talented watercolorist who influenced her love of color and light.

Ms. Davis has been painting in oils since 1990. She has been fortunate to study with both Art League and Yellow Barn teachers such as Walter Bartman, Rob Liberace, Danni Dawson, Dan Thompson, Gonzalo Ruiz Navarro and Christine Lashley. She has studied online with Ingrid Christensen, Colley Whisson and Aimee Erikson.

Ms. Davis continues to pursue both landscape and figure painting with a special interest in plein air painting. The beauty of the Potomac River as well as an interest in gardening and nature provide special inspiration. Her work has been selected for several awards as well as numerous juried shows (see Events page) including shows at Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, MD., and the Art League Gallery in Alexandria, VA.

Ms. Davis is a member of several local art organizations including Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio, Rockville Art League, Montgomery Art Association, and the American Impressionist Society.

Ms. Davis and her husband have three children as well as grandchildren residing in Northern Virginia.
