My series of QuiRky paintings allow me to explore color in a way that feels fresh and harmonious. These 36 x 36 inch acrylic works are a playful reinterpretation of the ubiquitous QR code. Each one focuses on a color with the goal of creating harmonious color sensations as well as a weaving of colors through chroma and value. Each shape is painted by hand (no tape or masking fluid) because I enjoy the subtle edge variation. The familiar QR code gets another wink when these paintings are translated into a black and white value scale. These are time-consuming and, for me, thought provoking paintings as I develop each one and consider complementary colors, colorful grays, simultaneous contrast and other aspects of color theory which fascinate me more and more. I consider them fully in keeping with my impressionistic love of color. I am going around the color wheel with this series! So far - Orange, Blue, Green and Red. Stay tuned for Yellow and Purple.

Painting in oils gives me great joy, especially when painting en plein air. I am fascinated by light and its impact on color, as well as by color vibrations. I consider myself a contemporary American Impressionist because I predominantly work from life and strive to capture the emotional elements of color in any scene. I have begun to experiment with layers and the effect of various underpainting or ground tones. My fascination with color and the impact of layers has led to numerous large sunset and cloud works. Color interaction and color theory also inspired my new large abstract series called QuiRky. My paintings have won several awards at juried shows at The Yellow Barn at Glen Echo, Md., as well as the Montgomery Art Association. I have also been accepted to juried shows with the Rockville Art League and The Art League Gallery located in the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, Va. In 2022 and 2023, I was invited to participate in a show called “Women in Art” at Northside Social in Arlington, Va. Beginning in 2021, I was invited to show my work at Gallery 75 in Alexandria.
